Emergency Services in Australia

Important information about Australia's emergency services

In Australia, triple zero ( 000 ) is the number for emergency services. Emergency services include:

  • Police
  • Fire
  • Ambulance

Wherever you are in Australia, you can call 000 if there is a life-threatening emergency.

These calls are free (even from your own mobile phone).

If you need help and it's easier to speak in your native language, tell the operator this when you call and they will connect you to a translator.

Here are some examples of when you should call 000:

  • Someone has been seriously injured or is in urgent need of medical help.
  • If your life or property is being threatened.
  • If you have just witnessed a serious accident or crime.
