Do's and Don'ts of Resume Development
Creating your resume can be a time-consuming task, but getting it right is crucial to landing that dream job of yours. Below is a list of do’s and don’ts when you’re developing your resume:
Do’s:
- Correct contact details (triple check phone number and email addresses are correct)
- Employment (ensure in chronological order most recent at the top)
- Formatting & Relevance (format your resume and ensure it's relevant to the job role based on the position description)
- References (professional references ONLY and ensure they are available)
- Spelling / Grammar (utilise spellcheck and ask someone to check your grammar)
- Online presence (ensure your social media accounts are on private as employers DO check them!)
Don’ts:
- Age (unless you are an apprentice)
- Nationality (unless the requirement of the job is residency)
- Residential address (Just list your suburb not your entire residential address)
- Photo (no images)
- Too long (stick to 2 pages maximum)
