The best and brightest event in Melbourne is nearly here, and we need some amazing volunteers to help us make it a huge success!

Walking Stars is a fun, non-competitive half marathon walk through Melbourne’s CBD after dark – there’s no other event quite like it!

Our participants dress up in lights, glitter and bright colours, so they can walk into the night towards a cancer free future.

The event will kick off at Kings Domain on Saturday 3 December, when a few thousand Victorians will meet up to take on the 21km challenge. This important fundraiser simply can’t happen without the support of our generous volunteers. So, can we count on you to help us this year?

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience first hand how a large-scale event is executed and to obtain valuable experience with various stakeholders in the event industry – while simultaneously giving back to the community and having a lot of fun along the way!

There are a few different roles you can play on the day:

• Help greet participants and register volunteers as they arrive

• Cheer on walkers and help them navigate the course

• Assist with handing out prizes and event kits

• Promote a positive safety culture

The nitty gritty: Volunteer shifts vary from 4 to 8 hours and will take place between 4pm and 2am. Breaks will be arranged for longer shifts and snacks will be provided. We’re looking for flexible volunteers as roles or shift times may need to be adjusted closer to the event. You will need a current Working With Children Check (free for volunteers), be over the age of 18 or accompanied by a parent or guardian, and you must be able to attend a training session the week before the event at Cancer Council’s St Kilda Rd office.

Do you fit the bill? Then please register your interest to volunteer today!
