Work off your fines through WDP

If you are suffering from hardship, mental health issues, disability or addiction, you may be able to work off your fines by participating in unpaid work, a course, counselling (incl, financial) or a mentor program (under 25 years). The Work & Development Permit (WDP) scheme can provide you with a non-financial option to address your fine debt.

Here a some common questions about WDP

Am I eligible for WDP?

You are eligible for a WDP if you:

  • have a mental or intellectual disability, disorder or illness
  • have an addiction to drugs, alcohol or a volatile sustance
  • are experiencing homelessness 
  • are a victim of family violence or
  • are experiencing acute financial hardship

What activities can I do to reduce my fines?

  • unpaid work 
  • treatment given by a doctor, nurse or psychologist
  • courses - including educational, vocational or life skills courses
  • counselling, including financial counselling
  • drug or alcohol counselling
  • mentoring (if you are under 25 years of age)
