JARGON BUSTERS & ACRONYMS EXPLAINED 

Here are some common phrases or terms accompanied by their definitions. 

 

Jargon Busters

 

Alumni - a former pupil or student of a particularly school or university. 

Appeal - an application made to a higher body requesting the reversal of a decision made by a lower body. 

Attrition - the gradual process of wearing down or reducing something.

Cohort - a group of people with a shared characteristic.

Dean - head of a university / TAFE faculty. 

Demographics - statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it.

Meeting Minutes - official notes of a meeting.

Meeting Agenda - a document provided to meeting attendees before a meeting listing in order, the matters to be discussed.

Pedagogy - the method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept.

Retention - the act of retaining / keeping something. 

Student Engagement - the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism, and passion students demonstrate when learning.
